The dam is situated in a forest valley of the Černá Nisa River near Bedřichov.

The dam is located between Mníšek u Liberce and Fojtka and the water is supplied from the Fojtův Brook.

The recreational resort named Hamr na Jezeře is situated in a beautiful area near Stráž pod Ralskem. It is surrounded by several hills - Hamerský Špičák with Děvín Castle, Mlýnský Vrch and Chrástenský Vrch.

Horka reservoir is a convenient place not only for walks and relaxation but for sports activities as well.
