The Harcov water reservoir, also called the Harcovská Dam or Liberecká Dam, is situated not far from the centre of the city, in the valley of the Harcovský Brook, surrounded with forest from one side and with a peaceful villa quarter from the other side. It is used by local people for swimming, walks and relaxation.
The only larger beach is on the right bank, near the dyke, and offers all basic services: there are toilets, showers, a beach volleyball ground, refreshments and a restaurant. The beach is covered with grass or sand; the bank is medium steep.
The dyke is 20.5 m high, 157 m long, and its crown is 13 m above the surrounding ground level. The reservoir capacity is 630,000 cubic meters. It retains water coming from the water basin sized 14.78 square kilometres.
At present, the water reservoir is used for recreation by the population of Liberec. Originally, it was designed for flood protection and was used as water resource for industrial companies. The surrounding area is known for the presence of protected species: toad, newt, spotted woodpecker, spotted flycatcher and hedgehog.
Area: 12 hectares.
