Jizera Mountains

You can find the most unique group of stone and iron lookout towers in the Jizera Mountains. We aren\'t too far from the truth when we declare that such a complex has no equal in the Czech Republic or even in the world. Most of the lookout towers were built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. As a rule, these first ones were of wood. A number of them succumbed after several years to the action of alpine weather, others were replaced by lookout towers from stone or wood.

To this day, your visit should take in the lookout tower Štěpánka nad Příchovicemi, which is aptly named the queen of all lookout towers in the Liberec region. Its unusual octagonal shape and views on the Jizera Mountains, Krkonoše, Lužice Mountains and Labské sandstones ranks it among the most visited lookout towers.

No less beautiful views can be found from the lookout tower Královka above Bedřichov, from Černé Studnice by Jablonec nad Nisou, from Bramberk by Lučany nad Nisou, from Slovanka aboveMaxov nad Nisou, from Frýdlantské Lookout Tower on Ressel Heights or from the lookout towers on Tanvaldský Špičák. Considering the fact that these buildings do not lack a certain contemporary art is evidenced by the lookout tower Smrk, which stands on the highest peak of the Czech part of Jizera Mountains, or the lookout tower Nisanka, which is combined with a telecommunications tower.

If you set out into the Lužice mountains, you will certainly not miss the lookout tower Jedlová by Jiřetín pod Jedlovu, from which there is a view on Krkonoše, the Krušné Mountains, Český ráj (Bohemia Paradise), and the Bohemian Central Range, or the lookout tower Hvozd, which lies on the border with Germany.

Not even Machův kraj remains in the background and it offers the visitors views on Vrátenská Peak, which is also a communications tower.

In Krkonoše, the sole stone lookout tower is located on the top of Žalý. Thanks to the relatively high elevation (1,019 m above sea level) from its peak is an unrestricted circular view, one marked as the best in Bohemia. Visible from here are not just Krkonoše, but also the entire surrounding vicinity, and during good visibility, even to the tops of Prague towers.

In Český ráj, these compete for your attention primarily with the rock viewpoints in Hruboskalsko and Prachovské skaly, but you will also find here a number of classic stone or metal lookout towers. One of these is the peak of Kozákov at Semily, Kopanina at Frýdštejn, or Tábor at Lomnice nad Popelkou. The city of Lomnice itself offers a unique view from the peak of the newly reconstructed ski jump bridge K-70.

The Liberec region is not just a place of lookout towers, but also rock viewpoints, which offer you views on Jizera and Lužice Mountains, on Krkonoše, Český ráj and Máchův kraj. You don't believe it? Come and see for yourself...
