Visit the area around Kamenický Šenov

The Českolipsko Region

Kamenický Šenov is a well-known glassmaking town, specialized in the manufacture of chandeliers. It lies in Northern Bohemia, west of Děčín. The town spreads in the valley among the hills of České středohoří and Lužické hory, surrounded by wooded hill slopes. There are two downhill courses with ski lifts near the town. The first one is at Prácheň and the second one is at Polevsko on the slope of Polevský vrch.

From spring to autumn you may set off on a trip to the surrounding woods along one of many marked hiking trails or cycle paths. At the eastern fringe of the town, there is the oldest geologic reserve in our country. It is named Panská skála, one of the most beautiful samples of basalt column cleavage in the Czech Republic. Pentagonal or hexagonal regular basalt columns are up to 12m long, with the diameter of 20-40cm. The entire formation looks like organ pipes and therefore it is often called the Rock Organ.

If you go from Kamenický Šenov to the northwest, you will reach the top of Zámecký vrch with a ruin of the Kamenický Castle. A 12-metre high wooden tower with an open roofed platform was built in the wall of the castle palace, offering almost an all-round view of the surrounding area, in particular České středohoří.

South-west of Kamenický Šenov, there is Nový Oldřichov where you may visit a unique Fire-Fighting Museum. You will find real curiosities among many exhibits on display, which will surely admired by both children and adult visitors.
