The traditional Market of Liberec is held annually in the middle of June on the square of Dr. E. Beneš in front of the Liberec Town Hall and in the adjoining Kostelní street. For the entirety of a June weekend, these spaces are filled with marketeers, conjurers, musicians, puppeteers, men on stilts and knights on horses. The market is opened with the arrival of Catherine of Redern and her entourage, the departure of which on Sunday afternoon signals the end of the event. A cultural programme, regularly organized for the visitors of the market, held on the square on Saturday evening, and is of particular interest. As a rule, it entails a combination of theatre performance and pyrotechnical display. The event is annually organized as part of the festival Nisa – the River which Connects us.
