The first record of the village dates back to 1395 when the area belonged to the farmstead of Valtinov. In the environs of Velký Valtinov there are many attractive and interesting places. There are Lužické hory in the north, Horecký rybník and Hamerský rybník and the region of Ralsko are located in the south-east. Lovers of historical monuments will admire the Mansions of Zákupy and Lemberk and the church in Jablonné v Podještědí.
