The first record of the village dates back to 1460; it was mentioned in a deed of Czech King Jiří of Poděbrady. From 1680 to 1945 the Bezděz estate was owned by the House of Waldstein.

As far as historical monuments are concerned, a Baroque chapel and house No. 38 as an example of rural architecture have been preserved. Tachov extends in attractive landscape near Máchovo jezero. Its surroundings are ideal for hiking and cycling trips.
