Studenec is located around 8km south-east of Jilemnice, on the road to Nová Paka. Studenec as well as nearby Zálesní Lhota are villages situated at the foot of mountains, extending in the area of Jilemnické Podkrkonoší, on the slopes of Stráž, 630m.

The first historical notes on Studenec date back to the 2nd half of the 14th century. At that time it belonged to nearby Levín Castle. The first residents mostly lived by raising of cattle in the valley of the Lhotecký potok and by looking for silver on the slopes of Strážník.

Historical monuments of Studenec comprise the Church of St. John the Baptist, Baroque statues along the roads and timbered houses, typical for Krkonoše. In Zálesní Lhota there is the Church of St. John of Nepomuk. A natural rarity of the location is the occurrence of araucarites and Czech semi-precious stones.
