The village extends at the south-west foot of Provodínské kameny, in an area known for mining of good-quality glass and ceramic sands. Provodín was founded in the 12th century; the first record of the village dates back to 1376.
As far as cultural monuments are concerned, there is a timbered former pub from the 17th century with a Baroque statue. The dominant feature of the local landscape is the ruin of Jestřebí Castle, built by the Ronov family in 1295.
