In the past the farming village belonged to the royal crown estate of Bezděz and belonged to the district of Doksy, founded by Otakar II.

Nowadays Okna is primarily a holiday resort. There are some well-preserved timbered houses. The village is located in an attractive area near Máchovo jezero.
