Bělá pod Bezdězem
The Bohemian Gate is one of the original gates, which served to guard the entrance to Bělá pod Bezdězem.
It dates back to the origins of the town's history, a period when Bělá was fortified. The ramparts featured five gates and a small one through which people would fetch water from below the town. The tower at the gate has a square ground plan and 2.3 m thick stone walls. It is about 13 m tall, which is only a part of the original height according to historical sources. The roof has a new frame and roofing. The area outside the gate is also interesting because it has remnants of the drawbridge which served as an entranceway over a moat that was a part of the fortification.
