The first record of Skalice dates back to 1226. Skalice used to lie on an old country road from Bohemia to Lusatia. In the 16th century glassmaking started to develop there. In particular after the Thirty Years War the importance of local glassmaking grew and glassmakers specialized in the manufacture of high-quality glass, so-called Czech crystal.
There are several interesting historical monuments in the village, including the building of the local presbytery and several examples of rural architecture - timbered house No. 95, former mill No. 269, former fortress No. 294 and house No. 198. Furthermore, there is a group of statues of St. John of Nepomuk, wayside shrines and chapels in the village and its environs.
