It lies at the road leading from Mimoň through Zákupy to Česká Lípa. A merchant route leading from Prague through Žitava to the Baltic ran through the area in the past.

Bohatice is situated in a region which used to be the estate of the House of Ralsko and later was owned by the Vartember family. They built a castle on a nearby hill (696m), nowadays a ruin.

The countryside around Bohatice is hilly and there are lots of ponds thanks to which it is a relatively popular tourist destination. The surroundings are attractive for hikers; there are also numerous cycle tracks.
