Bedřichov developed at a glass foundry which was set up in 1598 by Petr Vanderer. Kristiánov, a former small glassmaking village located not far away, was founded in 1775 by Johann Leopold Riedel. It used to be a prospering and independent community at that time. An exposition of glassmaking and nature of Jizerské hory with a model of old Kristiánov was opened in Liščí bouda, a former glassmakers' pub. A cemetery of glassmakers with old tombs is also very interesting.

Nowadays there are numerous holiday houses in Bedřichov, which is a popular ski resort and starting point for hikes or cycle tours in Jizerské hory. Thanks to the peaceful environment, Bedřichov is also a good destination for a family holiday. It is easy to get there by city transport from Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou. In summer Bedřichov is an ideal place for cycle touring, water sports and other activities. Thanks to an abundance of snow in winter, it offers lots of treated cross-country ski tracks and downhill courses.
